A Varnell, GA, witness reports an “incredibly bright, shiny, white oval or square-shaped object” the size of a fingernail at arm’s length that narrowed to a vertical slit for a few seconds and then just disappeared “like a portal closing” at 11:30 a.m. on April 7, 2011, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
“As I watched, in about 2 seconds it narrowed from an oval to a vertical slit, still bright white,” the witness stated. “It remained a slit for a couple of seconds, then vanished. The total time I saw it was about 5 seconds. I saw nothing where it had been but the blue sky, no contrail, no sound. I continued watching the spot where it had been for any movement for at least a minute more.”
The witness is convinced this was not a conventional object.
“It was not all that small, not just a pinpoint of light. I can’t see how an airplane of that size could just vanish without a trace. It looked like a portal closing, like you see in the movies. I keep trying to convince myself that it was an airplane banking and reflecting the noonday sun from its surface. But it didn’t have the shape of an airplane, it was oval, or maybe rectangular. And then where did it go? The best way I can describe what I saw was that it looked like a bright portal in the sky closing.”
Varnell is in Whitfield County, Georgia, population 1,491. No photos or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed on April 7, 2011.
Georgia is a current UFO ALERT 4 rating, with a higher number of UFO sightings nationally. Georgia had 14 UFO report in March 2011 – while California had 45 sightings, the highest reporting state in the nation.
