FUKUSHIMA: TICKING TIME BOMB OF DEATH

nuclear-cleanup.jpg

In the coming weeks, brave men and women will begin the treacherous task of removing 400 tons of spent fuel from the Fukushima Daiichi Reactor No. 4. Can they do it? Will they be alive when it is done? And where will extremely radioactive spent fuel be stored or disposed of? Of course “disposed of” is the wrong phrase because radioactivity cannot be disposed of—for thousands if not millions of years. And it is deadly to life; in fact, it is anti-life itself.

Meanwhile, certain awareness is dawning around Planet Earth that radiation from the stricken power plant in Japan is threatening the health of humankind and the life-forms of Earth. Fukushima is causing major environmental damage all over the world and a warning has come, “Do not eat any kind of Pacific fish.” Radiation levels on the west coast of the United States are greatly elevated; cancer rates are bound to increase dramatically.

“We think something happened in the ocean, we have never seen anything like this at all. It is as if the ocean has died,” exclaim Inuit elders, with both Alaska and Russia affected. Meanwhile, an environmentalist in California tells of the lack of ocean life when he is out in his boat, and “even the seagull population has decreased dramatically.” The Japanese Times states, “Fukushima Daiichi radioactive water problems seem ‘uncontainable,”

We are already living in an ailing environment with radical climate change and humankind’s neglect and abuse causing huge numbers of species to be threatened with extinction. Logging and over-development has destroyed crucial forests which are the lungs of the planet. Our oceans and seas are already struggling as numbers of fish decline due to severe over-fishing; ocean mammals die by the millions.

When is the last time you saw any fish but tilapia and salmon in your supermarket, these being farmed in China? Perhaps Iowa is not blessed with the freshest supply of fish being so far inland but here, at least, all the other kinds of fish which were in supermarkets, are totally unavailable.

Let me just insert a paragraph here which states I will not fight with those who think:

1) Climate change and the sad state of the planet simply do not exist and it is just another big fat conspiracy or

2) That the state of the Mother Planet is what the Mother Planet wishes, it is just her current natural mood.

I adamantly reject both of these points of view and see no point of arguing them. Back to Fukushima:

A recent report by Michael Snyder at TruthWins.com, highlights 28 signs that the U.S. West Coast is still being torn up by nuclear radiation from Fukushima. Many of these signs include strange illnesses and mass deaths among sea creatures and other animals, as well as high radiation readings from dozens of monitoring stations. “Every single day, 300 tons of radioactive water from Fukushima enters the Pacific Ocean,” writes Snyder. “This means that the total amount of radioactive material released from Fukushima is constantly increasing, and it is steadily building up in our food chain.”

Recently masses of sea lions, sockeye salmon and other sea creatures have washed up, dead of a “strange something” in their environment. Many polar bears, seals and walruses along the Alaska coastline have major fur loss and open sores. These are symptoms of radiation poisoning and are not typical of most diseases. Plankton, blue fin tuna and other sea life collected between Hawaii and California are testing high for radiation, and these levels are expected to continue increasing.

BBC News in the U.K. reported last year that literally millions of tons of radioactive debris had begun traveling across the Pacific Ocean, and that some of it had already impacted Hawaii and  the west coast of the United States. Huge, obstreperous, often radioactive debris from the 9.0 quake and tsunami which caused Fukushima’s deathly wreckage, is floating across the Pacific. Much of it has already washed up on west coast shorelines from Alaska to California. Who cleans it up? Where does it go even if it is cleaned up?

It is likely radioactive water will continue to impact the U.S. West Coast for many years to come, potentially doubling in strength over the next five or six years. Before Fukushima, there was already a huge concern about the U.S.’ and Earth’s dwindling fresh water supply.

“Look at what’s going on now: They’re dumping huge amounts of radioactivity into the ocean — no one expected that in 2011,” stated Daniel Hirsch, a nuclear policy lecturer at the University of California-Santa Cruz recently to Global Security Newswire. “We could have large numbers of cancer from ingestion of fish.”

Initial Fukushima radiation release more than 100 times larger than Chernobyl, confirms study

There will most certainly be a major upswing in cancer rates due to Fukushima; the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Meteorological Research Institute estimates that some 60 billion becquerels of radioactive cesium and strontium are being dumped into the Pacific Ocean every single day. The Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) also admits that as much as 40 trillion Becquerel’s of radioactive tritium have been released into the Pacific since the disaster began.
