Saturday, 26 July 2014, was a relatively clear night, perhaps that why so many folks witnessed the New York Lights. The pattern of fireball sightings covered a flight path spanning from Long Island, NY to Ontario, Canada.
The New York Lights were first noticed by various folks in Long Island. At about 8:45 p.m., Tom, a motorist in Islip, NY on the southern coast of the island, saw the bright yellowish fire balls through his car’s sun roof.
A little bit after 9 p.m., a resident of Northport, NY on the north side of the island reported the bright glowing fireballs.
At about 9:20 p.m., a motorist and his wife in Middletown, NY witnessed the bright objects flying in a loose formation as they moved across the sky. If you held your arm out they were about the size of your thumb nail. “They were slightly smaller than the moon.”
About the same time, Holly, another resident of Middletown remarked, “I watched in awe as they flew in the clear sky.” The glowing objects seemed to be disappearing then reappearing.
In Syracuse, NY George on Onondaga hill was in the back yard enjoying a summer night and saw them. “They were very bright yellowish and there were bunch of them, they appeared to be very high over downtown Syracuse.”
At about 9:30 p.m., Zach and three friends were driving on Interstate 690 east near Fairmont, NY when they saw the bright yellowish fireballs roughly above the City of Syracuse. “There were four bright yellow balls in a formation with two more off to the right, perhaps little bit to the north of the other four.” Zach says that the bright lights were about the size of your little fingernail. The passengers of the auto watched them until they exited the interstate. “That’s when three of the objects then just seemed to, winked out.”
Approximately a 140 miles west of Syracuse, at about 9:40 p.m., a resident of Hume, NY was walking his dog and saw three of the bright lights flying in a triangle formation. Another five of the bright yellow objects just started appearing one at a time. The lights seemed to be moving northward.
Later about 10 p.m. the lights were reported over Toronto in Ontario, Canada and later that night near Port Hope also in Ontario, Canada.
